Grape-Stomping Bash on Oct. 22

Spend the day at new urban wine-making facility The Winery SF on historic Treasure Island and channel a scene from your favorite ’50s sitcom! On Oct. 22, from noon to 5 p.m., the winery will celebrate harvest and the release of its wines with a grape-stomping bash inspired by I Love Lucy! Arrive by land or sea (parking is free!) and taste a dozen new wines from the labels The Winery SF, San Francisco Series, and Charitable Series, including “Flower Power” and “Rockstar,” which recently won awards (double gold and bronze, respectively) at the San Francisco International Wine Competition. In addition to tasting, if you arrive in your best Lucy or Ricky look, you can enter the I Love Lucy costume competition: one winner will receive a free bottle of new release wine. Raffle tickets (one for $2 or six for $10) will also be available for guests to enter a “Bash the Grapes” grape-stomping competition at 4 p.m.; four lucky guests will be chosen to compete, and the winner will receive wine and barrel sampling for 10 people at The Winery SF (a $250 value). In addition, explore the 20,000-square-foot venue while enjoying live DJ music and slices from San Francisco’s famous Golden Boy pizza truck, which will be parked outside (though not included with admission). Can’t make it? “Lucy, you got some ’splainin’ to do!”

$65 For One Acupuncture Session, $99 For Two Sessions

Reached your breaking point? Try a new remedy. Whether you’re tormented by terrible PMS, nagging pain, digestive issues, insomnia, anxiety, or just about any other ailment, Point of Life acupuncture can take the edge off. Even if you’re not looking to treat a specific problem, acupuncture provides a holistic path to a healthier life, and it’s a great overall de-stresser. Just ask acupuncturist Paola Acuña, who is big on preventative care: “I like to tell new patients that in China, the doctors would only get paid when the patient got well. It’s a different way of thinking.” Acuña’s thinking led her to San Francisco State University, where she earned a bachelor’s in Chinese medicine in 2001, then onto the American College of Traditional Chinese Medicine, where she received a master’s in acupuncture. Book a visit with the well-educated expert – an hour and a half the first session, one hour for subsequent visits – and Acuña will ask you questions, feel your pulse, and examine your tongue, which offers a picture of your overall constitution. In addition to administering the hair-thin needle treatment, Acuña will offer advice that complements the acupuncture. “I really like to look at the whole picture and at the diet,” she says. “I prefer to treat with food rather than push herbs and supplements.” That’s food for healthy thoughts.

$149 Brazilian Blowout

Brazil is known for many things: breathtaking scenery, beautiful women, and now, the hottest hair treatment on the market: the Brazilian Blowout. Visit vivid and stylish Central Richmond salon IHairBook and see what the fuss is about. A favorite of celebs and curly haired gals the nation over, the Brazilian Blowout is the only professional smoothing treatment that actually improves the health of hair. Through the use of a Brazilian Super Nutrient Complex and a proprietary polymer system, the Brazilian Blowout treatment creates a protective protein layer around the hair shaft that smoothes the cuticle and relaxes the hair. Performed in just 90 minutes without harsh chemicals, you’ll have shiny, frizz-free hair that can be washed and air dried directly after treatment and will still hold its smoothness. The treatment can be applied to extensions, freshly dyed hair, and in conjunction with other relaxers and straighteners. Volume won’t be lost, and results last for up to 12 weeks. It’s good to be Brazilian.

On a quest for superhero strength, Barbie-like flexibility, and envy-inducing posture? Look no further than San Francisco Pilates above the trolley turn-around in the historic Flood building at Market and Powell streets. Opened in 2011, the intimate, boutique studio’s approachable, patient, and “anti-drill-sergeant” instructors specialize in postural retraining, core conditioning, and postrehab and pre- and postnatal Pilates. The two-floor fitness center works with students of all levels in individual or small-group sessions (up to four) so that a personalized repertoire is built and catered to each body’s issues. In addition to private lessons and duet sessions with a friend, San Francisco Pilates also offers springboard trio/quad classes; the unintimidating resistance work makes mat classes a little more challenging with wall-mounted Ellie Herman springboards. Just up the escalator from the Powell Street BART/Muni stop, the studio is easily accessible and open seven days a week. Pencil in post-workout shopping after your session: you’ll need a new pair of skinny jeans.

Pizza by the Foot and Pinot Noir

Start your evening off on the right foot. Whether you’re dining with pals or taking a date out on the town, there’s no combination that pleases the mind and the belly more than pizza and wine. Savor both with our latest offer: $35 for one pizza by the foot and a top-rated bottle of 2008 Cuvaison Pinot Noir (a $70 value) at Unwind on Union.

The year-old Cow Hollow New American eatery has a laid-back vibe that has “easy does it” written all over it. Snag a coveted sidewalk table, saddle up to the bar to catch a game on one of six flat-screen TVs, or sit down in the expansive rear greenhouse patio and make a night of it. Choose the pizza by the foot recipe that calls to you most: sausage, red pepper, and caramelized onions; tomato, fresh basil, and mozzarella; or pepperoni; you can’t go wrong. Say cheers with a bottle of 2008 Cuvaison pinot noir, an elegant yet complex Napa Valley wine with a nice mix of red fruits and earthier, dark fruits. Once you’ve drunk life to the lees - and devoured every last crumble of savory crust - stroll home happy or hit up the nearby bars: Union Street awaits.
